This City Isn't Big Enough
Anyone else catch Apes of the State on their This City Isn't Big Enough anniversary tour with Rent Strike? My wife and I went to the show in Cleveland and then drove down to Newport KY the next day to see them again. That Newport show was probably the best show I've ever been too.
Anyways, I got back to work on the website after taking some time off. Just figured I'd share what I'm working on and some ideas I have.
Thinking of adding a user-to-user messaging system. As the admin I can already message y'all, and you can message me back, so it would be pretty easy to extend that to regular users. Just not sure that it's needed or wanted.
A big issue with the way that the site handles shows being added (automatically creating a new venue in the database if the venue name doesn't already exist), is that shows that are entered as 'TBD' or 'House Show', end up creating venues with those names, and with whatever address information is entered at the time. So I'm trying to come up with a way to handle that, but it isn't easy.
Spider had the very considerate idea of adding a 'sober' designation to shows. I love that. I know people in recovery that would appreciate that so I think I'll try to add that on my lunch break tomorrow.
The login/authentication process is all handled through Auth0, a third party system that is extremely secure, especially compared to anything that I would have built myself. But it's complicated so I haven't finished setting up the password recovery or email confirmation parts yet, but I really need to.
I know I say it in almost every post, but if you have any ideas, please share them with me. I love building websites and software, it's the only way that I know how to give back to the community, and community is so important. So on that note, please consider posting about us online, tell your friends, make an account and get involved. It's a community driven resource, so without the community it's meaningless.
